You Have To Watch PlayStation Hong Kong's Bizarre PS VR Promo

Never mind mixed reality filming and traditional trailers; Sony’s Hong Kong division has nailed how to advertise VR, and it can prove it to you.

PlayStation Hong Kong released a short video (below) for the upcoming headset earlier this week, and it’s easily the funniest and strangest advertisement for any VR headset yet seen. The company has brought in actors to play as some of our favorite gaming characters. Street Fighter‘s M. Bison seems to be fully impressed with the new headset (or at least we think he is, we can’t actually understand), as does Hatsune Miku, a Japanese icon that will soon be appearing in her own PS VR game.

There are also some familiar faces from outside of games. Well, we think that’s meant to be Thor holding a small hammer and sporting a picnic blanket around his neck, anyway. And that might be Voldemort looking miserable? There’s also a woman holding Farpoint‘s PlayStation Aim controller that we were hesitant to call Princess Leia until we realized she seems to be keeping her hair up with lighsabers. We can’t name everyone, but hats off to you if you can.

We guess the theme is about stepping into the shoes of these characters for ourselves, though of these characters only Hatsune Miku is known to have a PS VR game in the works. You might not get that from your first viewing; the actual PS VR headset only appears for a brief few seconds.

PS VR is hitting Hong Kong and just about everywhere else two weeks from today on October 13th. We’re excited for the headset to hit, though if you haven’t already pre-ordered your unit then you might be waiting a while yet. Looking for more on the headset? You’re just in time for the last two weeks of our countdown, where we’re highlighting one game a day.
