NVIDIA’s latest graphics card, the GeForce GTX 1080, means big things for VR, and it’s just been introduced into an Oculus Ready PC.
Falcon Northwest has today revealed new takes on its Tiki and Talon desktop PCs, both armed with a Founders Edition of the 1080. The builds are also officially recognised under Oculus VR’s Oculus Ready PC Program, which means they exceed the minimum requirements the company laid out last year to run the Oculus Rift, and will also be more than capable to powering the HTC Vive. Both are also fully configurable and should be built and shipped out to you in around 19 days of placing your order.
But let’s get down to the nitty gritty. Alongside the powerful new card the new configuration for the Tiki includes an Intel Core i7-6700K processor, 16GB of 2,400 MHz DDR4 memory and 1TB Micron SSD. Without adding any extras, the kit is available for $2,848.
The Talon, meanwhile, is powered by the same processor but armed with 32GB of 2,400 MHz DDR4 memory, 512 GB PCI Express SSD main storage and a 4 Terabyte WD Hard Drive. It also comes with a 1 Kilowatt Power Supply. The rig starts at $3,149. It’s important to point out neither kit comes with an Oculus Rift; you’ll have to head to the official Oculus website or wait for more third-party retailer stock to get your hands on one of those.
These new rigs arrive just a few months after Falcon introduced its first range of Oculus Ready PCs that were armed with NVIDIA’s 980 cards. The new card, together with the 1070, now lead the way as the company’s flagship products, more than doubling performance over the previous generation but also cutting price, coming in at $599 (or $699 for the Founders Edition included in this new configurations).
