Here's a Sneak Peek at THE VOID's VR 'Ghostbusters' Experience

Last month we learned that THE VOID was getting an exclusive Ghostbusters experience in New York City. As an extension of the existing VR arcade, this location would be entirely themed and designed around the Ghostbusters universe. It opens to the public later this week, at the start of July. Sony, Madame Tussaud’s, and Ghost Corp. are assisting in the production of this VR experience to keep it authentic with the setting of the upcoming film.

Taking place at Madame Tussaud’s Time Square location, it’s described as a multi-layered display, custom built for the new location. THE VOID has made a name for itself in the VR scene by being one of the first large-scale, AAA-quality, VR arcade experiences popularized in the United States. Back when it first launched last year, we went hands-on at the original location and came away with incredibly strong impressions. You can see more about their vision for the future of VR arcades in this interview as well.

In the video above, you can see the first glimpse of what the Ghostbusters: Dimension experience will look like to gamers inside their headsets. A lot of care went into crafting the world and it looks like everything from the locales to the ghost-busting action is true to the source material. It might be a brief glimpse, but some excellent particle effects and physics are on display from what we can see.

It’s worth noting that despite speculation, this new experience will not be utilizing the latest Rapture headset and tracking technology that THE VOID teased in non-functional mockups at TED earlier this year. Instead, it appears that THE VOID will continue the use of previously established technology, similar to their main location, and have not incorporated the new Rapture setup into this experience.

We are going hands-on at this new experience this week and will have our own impressions for you as soon as possible. In the meantime, check out the video above and let us know what you think. What other fictional worlds would you want to visit in a future VR arcade?
