Unwrap a shiny new Vive yesterday? Well whoever bought it for you isn’t going to like this news (unless they got it on Black Friday): the headset has had its price temporarily slashed again this week.
You can currently get the Vive for $100/£100 off, making it £659/$699 and there’s free shipping to boot. The deal is available either through HTC’s official site or some of the Vive’s third-party retailers. You’ll still get the three free games, too, so you’ll have The Gallery Episode 1 and Zombie Training Simulator with your purchase.
Given the launch of Oculus Touch earlier this week basically took the Oculus Rift up to the same compatibility and price. In fact, the Rift set up for full room-scale is actually a bit more expensive: it’s about $880 for the headset, controllers and third sensor needed to walk around. That makes the Vive easily the cheapest option for full room-scale VR right now, which is not something we thought we’d be saying any time soon.
If you pick up a Vive on this deal, then welcome to the wonderful world of VR. Take a look at our list of the best games you can currently get on the headset at the moment and make sure to head over to Steam to take advantage of the Winter Sale before it wraps up next week.
Going in to next year we’re hoping to see a lot more for the Vive, so now might be a good time to get involved. Don’t forget that CES 2017 is just around the corner, though, and there’s no telling what announcements HTC might have for us there. It certainly would be nice to see those prototype Steam controllers again.
Still, Oculus might have some more deals for this January sale. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled.
