Oculus announced it is including Lucky’s Tale for free with every Rift. The third-person platformer joins highly anticipated first-person space-fighter EVE: Valkyrie as being bundled with Facebook’s PC-powered VR headset.
Lucky’s Tale is a platformer built specifically for VR and its creator, Playful Corp, did some absolutely masterful work with the game’s camera – giving the player presence in the scene. You play as the titular character Lucky across a number of colorful and fun levels. Everything from the menus to the game itself feels purposeful and built around the idea of maximizing the potential of VR in a classic genre. Lucky’s Tale should definitely not be missed, and now it won’t have to be.

Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey offered the following in a blog post on the company’s website:
We always believed there was an opportunity for platformers in VR, but it wasn’t until playing Lucky’s Tale and working with the Playful team that we truly realized its potential to change how people view this genre of gaming forever. Lucky’s Tale delivers on everything you want in a next-generation VR game – it’s thrilling, full of adventure, and incredibly fun to play.
Playful Corp raised $25 million recently from unnamed investors. Founder Paul Bettner told UploadVR they have “a couple of new VR ideas in the prototype stage” and that, when it comes to VR, the Rift is where they are focusing their “practically all” attention.
