Here at Upload we’re usually quite harsh on VR rollercoasters, but there is one on the horizon that has us quite excited.
That title is Until Dawn: Rush of Blood for the PlayStation VR from UK-based Supermassive Games, and it’s got a new trailer this week. Seen below, it features fresh footage of the on-rails action game, complete with commentary from developers like Executive Producer, Simon Harris. We spoke to Harris a few months back, and he alleviated some of our fears about the project being too scary for some players – a concern we hold for many VR horror titles – as well as touching upon other subjects.
As the name suggests, Rush of Blood is a spin-off of last year’s horror hit, Until Dawn, which was a sort of choose your own adventure game similar to the likes of Heavy Rain. The VR title is quite a departure from the original, then. It’s set inside the mind of one of the first game’s characters, and has you shooting along tracks, blasting enemies using the PlayStation Move controllers. When we spoke to Harris, he confirmed that levels would have differing paths and separate themes the terrify players with.
The game is PlayStation’s VR title of the week, so look out for new posts and social media updates on it as the days go by.
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood will be a launch title for PlayStation VR when it hits on October 13th. It’s not all Supermassive has in the works for the kit, though, as it’s also bringing one of its older PlayStation Move titles, Tumble, to the headset on the same day. Elsewhere we know that the studio is working on at least one other VR experience that could be a bit more like a true Until Dawn game. It won’t be a sequel, though, and we don’t know what headsets it’s set to appear on.
It sounds like there’s plenty more to look forward to from Supermassive in the future.
