New PlayStation VR Releases For The Week Of 01/01/17

New PlayStation VR Releases For The Week Of 01/01/17

You may have noticed if you’re a frequent visitor to the site that we didn’t publish any new PS VR releases for the week of 12/25/16. That’s because there actually just weren’t any. This week, there is technically new stuff — and an app we missed two weeks ago — but overall it’s slim pickings again. We expect things to kick off with more intensity once highly-anticipated games like Resident Evil 7 and Star Trek: Bridge Crew start releasing. For now, there’s not much to write home about.

If you missed the previous entry, you can see those new releases here. Also, UploadVR has launched the ‘UploadVR PS VR Community’ on PlayStation 4! Join up, find other gamers to play with, and engage in discussions.

jaunt-ps-vr

Jaunt VR, from Jaunt Inc.
Price: Free

Early adopters of VR will know that Jaunt has been around as a video service for quite some time and it finally came to PS VR recently. As great as the realm of VR is for gaming, it’s also an amazing way to engage with and watch immersive cinematic content.

Recommendation: This is a must-download for the low price of zero dollars.

lens-for-ps-vr

Lens for PS VR, from Lens Entertainment PTY
Price: Free

Despite the fact that they forgot to include an image on their PSN Store page entry, this is actually a real piece of content that you can in fact download. Similar to Jaunt, Lens for PS VR is a video playing service described as a VR “streaming cinema”.

Recommendation: Shoddy in comparison to other higher quality platforms, but hey, it’s free.

kygo-carry-me-image-2

KYGO ‘CARRY ME’ VR EXPERIENCE, from Sony Music Entertainment
Price: $1.99

You read that correctly: this VR music app is coming directly from Sony Music Entertainment and it’s actually quite mesmerizing. It’s sort of like going inside of the psychedelic trappings of a VR music video to the tune of Kygo’s Carry Me feat. Julia Michaels. Very well done.

Recommendation: Paying money to watch a short VR experience like this is off-putting, but it’s certainly well done if you’re a fan of the song.
