PlayStation Move Twin Pack Revealed For PS VR Launch

Looking to upgrade your PlayStation VR experience in time for launch? Sony might have just the thing for you.

The company is repackaging and rereleasing its PlayStation Move motion controllers as a twin pack. The pack was spotted in Australia and reported over on Press Start today, complete with a shot of the new bundle. The site also confirmed that it’s due to launch for October 13th, the very same day that PS VR itself will hit, for $119.95 AUD (about $90.33 USD). That’s a pretty fair price for the two controllers, making it an ideal option for those that didn’t manage to pre-order the PS VR launch bundle which included two Moves, a camera and a copy of PlayStation VR Worlds.

The packaging has been rebranded to appeal to PlayStation VR customers. Move isn’t required for using the upcoming headset, though it is necessary to play some games, like Owlchemy Labs’ Job Simulator.

Last week we reported on the uncovering of a new PlayStation Move listing which touted a different model number for the device, suggesting Sony may have made some changes to it. Though the image of the packaging isn’t big enough to inspect in fine detail, it looks like the Moves in this bundle are virtually the same. UploadVR readers rightly pointed out that changes to the controller may be as simple as changing the ‘Start’ and ‘Select’ buttons to ‘Share’ and ‘Options’ to reflect the DualShock 4 gamepad. It may also have a micro-USB port for charging, bringing it in line with today’s current standards.

We had hoped for some improved tracking and maybe extra buttons, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to be the case.

We might see a more official unveiling of this pack at next week’s PlayStation Meeting on September 7th. The event is expected to play host to Sony’s slim PlayStation 4 console as well as a more powerful variation codenamed PlayStation Neo. It’s hoped that the new version of the device might deliver improved performance for PS VR titles, though the focus is said to be on offering 4K resolution for non-VR media.
