Pool Nation is One of the First VR Games to Hit Steam's Top Sellers List

Worried about how VR software might perform with the current install base? Cherry Pop Games has some encouraging news for you.

As pointed out by Valve’s Chet Faliszek, Pool Nation VR has been listed as one of the 10 bestselling games on Steam right now. Granted it seems to be sitting in the #10 spot, but it’s there all the same. The title launched on the HTC Vive yesterday, and is currently available at a discounted price of $16.99/£12.74, though actual sales figures haven’t yet been revealed.

As far as we know this is the first time a VR exclusive title has entered the Top Sellers list, though it’s possible that other games bundled with the Vive like Job Simulator and Tilt Brush have also found their way in there at some point. We recently cited Steam sale data that suggested there were around 50,000 Vive units in the wild right now, not including territories where the digital store isn’t available. That might give you an idea of how well the game is really performing.

Either way, it’s a positive sign that the Vive user base is growing and is already large enough to make a dent in the biggest digital videogame retailer in the west. It’s an impressive feat given the staggering $799 price tag, which doesn’t even include the high-powered PC needed to run it.

We should have some deeper coverage on Pool Nation VR soon, but it’s not too surprising to see it performing well within the context of VR. It’s a full Room-Scale experience that allows you to walk around a fully realised bar, using the Vive’s controllers to not only play pool but also throw darts. It’s also great for just messing around as are so many of these early VR titles, throwing empty beer bottles and playing online with friends.

With so many games coming to the kit but so few release dates tied down we’re not exactly sure what Vive’s next big release is. Games like Budget Cuts and the upcoming port of EVE: Valkyrie will hopefully challenge that Top Sellers list too, while we’re also hoping to see some standout titles for the headset later this month, as E3 2016 gets underway from June 14th – 16th in Los Angeles.
