This Popular YouTuber Will Film The Oscars' Red Carpet In 360 Video

Casey Neistat has over 2.2 million subscribers on YouTube. The young phenom is known for his vlog, adventure, and DIY videos. Neistat’s videos are about bringing his viewers along with him on an experience, and tomorrow that experience will be the red carpet of the 88th Academy Awards in Los Angeles. Neistat’s Oscars video will be different from his past offerings, however, because – in addition to 2.2 million Youtube subscribers – he now has something even more impressive: a pre-production Samsung Gear 360 Camera.

The Gear 360 Camera is a product that was announced by Samsung at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The Gear 360 is not slated to release until Q2 of this year but, according to a letter tweeted out by Neistat, he has been invited to try out the product ahead of its official commercial release.

The letter also indicates that Neistat will be, “The first person to operate the Gear 360 Camera in the real world.”

In a video posted on February 26, Neistat explained the genesis of this relationship with Samsung: “I know a bunch of the people at Samsung. We’ve been trying to find a product to work together on for years and it’s never come together. They’re like launching a new 360 camera and phone and all this stuff…and then they call me this week and they’re like: ‘we’re sponsoring the oscars do you want to go to the Oscars?’”

In the same video, Neistat also confirmed that, in addition to the Gear 360 Camera, he also received a Samsung Gear VR headset and a pre-production Samsung Galaxy S7 smartphone. Neistat will be recording with full access to the Oscars Red Carpet and his video is expected to be on YouTube in the days immediately following the event.
