PlayStation VR’s long-anticipated launch is nearing, but Sony evidently still has more to say about it.
Sony Interactive Entertainment Hong Kong (SIEHK) will be hosting a press briefing dedicated to its upcoming VR headset just ahead of the Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong 2016 event on July 28th. That is according to industry analyst ZhugeEX, who recently took to Twitter to confirm the news, also adding that SIE will be attending the full event, which runs from July 29th – August 2nd at the HK Convention & Exhibition Centre. Fans can probably expect to get their heads in the device over the course of the week.

We’re not sure what to expect from the conference itself; we already know that PS VR is launching on October 13th and it looks like the release will be simultaneous across the globe. It’s likely that you’ll see new games showcased, though there’s no guarantee that any of them will actually release over here. We hope they do, though, as PS VR is attracting a lot of attention in the East and it would be a shame to miss out on any of the content that SIE has planned for release in that part of the world.
In fact, both SIE and HTC are placing a strong emphasis on Asia. Earlier today we reported that the latter was to open over 10,000 “experience sites” showcasing its HTC Vive to potential customers, and SIE will no doubt be looking to do something similar with PlayStation VR in the run up to launch. Following its showing at E3 2016 last month, the device is now being rolled out to Best Buys and other retailers across the US to allow people to get their first taste of the kit. The approach is obviously working well; GameStop sold out of its latest and final batch of pre-order units “within minutes”.
