VRDC – or the Virtual Reality Developer’s Conference – was an event that took place within this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC). This show within a show focused exclusively on VR content and was a big reason why this year’s GDC was perhaps the most VR packed showcase in the country. For its second outing, the conference will be spinning off into a completely standalone event that is aiming to be a one-stop shop for VR enthusiasts from around the globe. However, VRDC Game and Entertainment sessions will continue alongside the main GDC conference next year.
According to representatives from VRDC, the new and improved showcase will, “Bring together designers, programmers, business professionals, producers, artists, and audio practitioners to share best practices, demo new technology, create new business partnerships, and exchange ideas with innovators shaping the industry.”
The inaugural edition of the now standalone conference will run from November 2-3 of this year. It will be held at the Park Central Hotel in San Francisco, CA. VRDC Is currently accepting open submissions from developers, merchants, and innovators looking to secure a spot on the show floor.
As it forays out from under the protective umbrella of GDC, VRDC is also deciding to expand its content lineup to include, “Virtual and augmented reality in games, entertainment, brand experience, and a wide range of innovative use cases.”
In order to reinforce these broader interests, VRDC is choosing to reveal two non-gaming exhibitors as the show’s first headlining guests: NASA and the Chernobyl VR Project.
In order to bring a convention of this scale to fruition, VRDC has assembled a crack squad of industry personalities to fill out its advisory board. The named members include: Noah Falstein (Google,) Chet Faliszek (Valve,) Robert Stevenson (Oculus,) Alex Schwartz (Owlchemy Labs,) Colin Northway (Fantastic Contraption,) Pete Isensee (HBO Labs,) Jazmin Cano (High Fidelity,) Timoni West (Unity Labs,) Tracey John (Havas Health,) & Christina Heller (VR Playhouse).
Registration for VRDC 2016 is open now.
