50 Days Of PS VR #15: 'Here They Lie' Looks Terrifying In New Trailer

15 days to go until the launch of PlayStation VR! We’re counting down to the release of Sony’s VR headset on October 13th by highlighting one game a day for its anticipated release. Today we’re heading back to horrors with Here They Lie.

Okay, okay, enough talk about Resident Evil 7 already. That’s ages away and, truth be told, there may well be a better horror game coming to PlayStation VR on launch day. Not that we want to stir up rivalries or anything, but Here They Lie from Tangentlemen looks frigteningly good, and it’s something we couldn’t let our list finish up without giving a quick nod to. That’s especially true now that the game has a horrifying new trailer that you can seen below.

Announced back at E3 2016, this PS4 exclusive is being developed with the help of Sony’s Santa Monica Studio, and clearly owes a debt to weird worlds like BioShock‘s Rapture. It’s a first-person game that we really know very little about – a promising sign for any horror project – but its surreal approach to scares is enough to keep us intrigued.

You’ll tumble further down this rabbit hole as the game continues. We’ve gone hands-on with the game and found ourselves deep in puddles of blood and navigating gloomy, dilapidated subway systems. Charming.

We’re not sure there’s anything that could necessarily kill you in Here They Lie, but that doesn’t mean having a beady eyed monster glare at you from off in the distance of a misty night is any less terrifying. It promises to instill a psychological type of horror that really gets under your skin, so it’s definitely not going to be for the faint of heart either way.

We don’t want to put too much pressure on Here They Lie by comparing it to Capcom’s big budget sequel too often, but its the element of the unknown that makes us suspect this will be the scarier of the two. Yes, Resident Evil 7 is keeping its plot on lock down, but we still know it to be grounded in the same world that overly-muscled men punch zombies as hard as possible in the face. But here, this is a land that we know absolutely nothing about. We don’t know the rules, we don’t know the inhabitants, and we absolutely do not know what’s around the next corner. That excites us immensely.

If you do want to try and answer some of the game’s riddles, then you can head to the game’s website, which is covered in cryptic hints and mysteries. Good luck trying to work out what’s going on; we’re completely lost.

Here They Lie will launch digitally on PlayStation VR on October 13th, with a physical release following on November 2nd. The game can also be played without the headset.
