50 Days Of PS VR #23: ‘Bound’ Brings Elegant Dancing And Sweeping Sights To PS VR

23 days to go until the launch of PlayStation VR! We’re counting down to the release of Sony’s VR headset on October 13th by highlighting one game a day for its anticipated release. Today we’re revisiting one of the year’s most unique games with the VR update for Bound.

You might have already experienced Bound. You may well be familiar with its majestic leaps and subtle movements. What you haven’t seen, though, is Bound in VR. You haven’t brought its vibrant world to life and watched its elegant performances in 3D. The thought of that alone is enough to get us excited about the upcoming PlayStation VR integration for one of the most interesting PlayStation 4 games of the year so far.

In Bound, you enter the mind of an elderly woman that’s reliving childhood memories. To do this, she takes the form of a dancer and weaves around environments with precision. The game essentially plays out as an artful platformer in which you’ll go on a stunning journey that offers some of the most memorable sights and sounds in modern gaming.

It’s a tranquil piece that’s unlike anything else coming to the headset right now. To compare it to anything else out there would be a disservice, but suffice to say if you’re interested in experiences like Journey and the recent ABZU, then Bound is probably your cup of tea.

PlayStation VR gives those that already swept their way through Bound another reason to go back through it, while also enticing others to try it out for the first time. Personally, I’ve specifically been holding out to try the game with Sony’s headset. Here’s hoping the VR support will at the very least live up to the praise that the standard version as earned.

We’re also eager to see if the game might showcase PS VR’s sharing features. They’re a standard inclusion with every PS4 game at this point, but the original title has built up a strong community with its pictures, and PS VR will give you more control over the camera than ever before. It’s an opportunity that shouldn’t be missed.

Bound actually comes from a studio with an interesting relationship with VR. Plastic, the Polish developer behind the game, was also the team behind Datura. This was an experimental PlayStation 3 game that used the Move controllers to operate various items, but was also used for some of Sony’s early VR R&D. As you can seen in this trailer, the player wore one of the company’s older 3D viewers attached to another Move controller for head-tracking. As such, Plastic is really one of the pioneers behind PlayStation VR, so it’s great to see them working on the system.

Bound‘s VR support will be released as a free update once PlayStation VR has launched on October 13th.
