In the world of “traditional” video games there are certain trailers that have transcended mere marketing materials and ascended to legendary status amongst the community.
The Gears of War “Mad World” trailer or Dead Island’s heartbreaking “rewind” spot are two prime examples of pieces that not only made customers want to pick a title up, but also forged an instant emotional connection between the audience and the IP.
Now, with today’s release of ADR1FT’s “Clair De Lune” trailer, VR gaming finally has a legendary preview to call its own.
ADR1FT – from studio ThreeOneZero – is described as:
“An immersive First Person Experience (FPX) that tells the story of an astronaut in peril. Floating silently amongst the wreckage of a destroyed space station with no memory and a severely damaged EVA suit slowly leaking oxygen, the only survivor struggles to determine the cause of the catastrophic event that took the lives of everyone on board.”
The beautiful visuals in ADR1FT perfectly combine with the moody piano music of this trailer to spark not only a buying impulse, but a cathartic response in its viewers. The studio could have opted to capture the game’s oxygen-leak mechanics through quick cuts and panicked music, but this strategy is infinitely more evocative and representative of the game’s actual tone.
ADR1FT ships as a launch title for the Rift on March 28. It will cost $20 and has been given an “intense” rating by Oculus.
