A fresh trailer debuted for upcoming noir rhythm action game Against in our UploadVR Showcase today.
Developed by Joy Way, the game is set to release later this year for PC VR. Set 1930s New York and adopting a noir aesthetic, Against will see you shooting, slicing and punching enemies to the beat of the music. Here’s a bit more info, taken from the game’s Steam listing:
New York of the 30s is a city of faded colors and frightening shadows. “AGAINST” is a rhythmic journey through those crime-ridden streets. Dispatch villains to the beat as you progress through dark alleys. Slice the mafiosos with your sword and mow them down with your pistol – but do it rhythmically for points and pleasure. Dodge obstacles, run up walls – all the while picking off your enemies as the pounding music builds. At the end of each level, take on the boss in sync with a musical climax.
You can see a few of those different weapons in the trailer from the showcase and while the clip starts static with on-the-spot gameplay, towards the end the scene begins to move artificially forward in a Pistol Whip-like manner. This is one of a few areas that seem to be a lovingly-inspired, melee, noir twist on the 2019 Cloudhead release.
Nto that that’s a bad thing — when Pistol Whip came out, it was frequently compared to both Beat Saber and Superhot and yet remains a stunning game in its own right. Hopefully with a focus on tighter, close combat and the spooky aesthetic, Against can similarly forge its own path.
Against is set to release on Steam for PC VR sometime this year. It is available to wishlist now.
