Welcome weary traveler. Come, sit down, lay your burdens by the fire. Have some hearty stew and replenish your strength. Now here, take this. Keep it close for the journey ahead. What is it you ask? That, my child, is your pitchfork. Grip it strongly in your hands for you will need it in the battle ahead.
This week on the Community Download we’re discussing something thats virtually guaranteed to augment the way you think about immersive technology (see what I did there? Please laugh or I don’t get food this week).
The issue on the table is this: which bleeding edge technology is most likely to have the largest impact on our world as time progresses — Augmented Reality or Virtual Reality?
The recent overwhelming popularity of Pokemon GO demonstrates that AR has a real shot at mass popularity when given the proper application. However, we can’t forget that VR is still in its developmental stages as well and is already beginning to take over Best Buy shelf space and Steam top seller lists.
Those of you choosing to champion AR as eventual winner will need to address the tech’s current underpowered capabilities and long road to true fruition. And those of you who are emerging from your headsets long enough to comment in favor of VR on this post will need to overcome the somewhat limited applications of the medium and the restrictions of covered vision.
So sound off in the comments, write on the Facebook post, come to my house and have a cup of coffee with me. Although, you’ll need to bring the coffee, and the cups, and the house. I currently live in a community park in case a Charmeleon shows up.
Happy debating!
