Augmented Empire Dev Partners With Fierce Kaiju For New VR Game

Two of the UK’s longest-standing VR developers are teaming up for a new project.

Coatsink, the developer of popular Gear VR games like Esper and turn-based strategy game, Augmented Empire, is teaming up with Fierce Kaiju, the creators of the Viral series that debuted on Gear in its early life. The pair are working on an unannounced project due to be released sometime in 2018.

It’s not often we see two developers pair up for work on a game. Fierce Kaiju co-founder and creative director Paul Colls told me that the idea for the title was first thought up by his team with the help of a grant from Creative England.

“Since starting up, we’ve always wanted to form friendships with like-minded people working in VR – to share info, techniques, tips and tricks, all to help ourselves and others along the way,” Colls said. “Working together with Coatsink is very much part of that thinking.

“We really feel that our two studios bringing our heads together to build a new IP – off the back of lessons learned on games like Viral, Augmented Empire and Esper – gives us the ideal opportunity to create something really special.”

The project is very secretive form now, though Colls explained the collaboration helped minimize the risk of its experimental ideas. He said that “working with an experienced team like Coatsink really helps to minimise that risk – roles can be filled quickly and we can tap directly into years of experience.”

Look for more info on the game next year, then.
