BaDoink CEO Reveals Most Popular HMDs for VR Porn As New Platform Goes Live

With plenty of content on offer and a partnership with Pornhub, VR porn company BaDoinkVR is in a good position at this early stage in the industry. Now, as BaDoink joins another platform, CEO Todd Glider has revealed where its content is viewed most.

That new platform is Velvet Reality, which is also collaborating with other VR porn outlets like VixenVR, Lightsouthern and Gloss to offer a range of content including 4K, 3D, 180 degree and 360 degree videos. The site effectively acts as a portal to the libraries of the aforementioned companies, and you can register there to get access to videos, though content from each is still locked away behind subscription services or, in the case of Velvet itself, a pay per view offering.

Speaking to UploadVR, Glider called Velvet Reality a “great distribution channel”. Its main goal is to be accessible, doing away with much of the configuration that earlier videos will have required. Content is available on both PC and mobile, spanning HMDs such as the Oculus Rift to Gear VR and Google Cardboard for Android devices. Support for the HTC Vive and the iOS operating system is also planned for the future.

Turning to BaDoinkVR more directly, Glider revealed that the company is aiming to have “well over” 100 videos available for its platform by the end of the year, with at least one new one going up each week. We asked him if he thought PC or mobile-based HMDs would be the main platform for consumption going forward, and he revealed that around 30 percent of BaDoinkVR users are watching through Oculus Rift.

The CEO noted the Rift clearly offered a high quality experience but confirmed that mobile platforms are in the lead. Another 30 percent of the company’s users are on Gear VR and, while Glider didn’t reveal figures for the HTC Vive, it’s a good bet the vast majority of remaining users are on mobile-based HMDs like Google Cardboard. Gear, though, is a great “happy medium” and a “killer device” in Glider’s eyes, and he has high hopes for Huawei’s recently announced HMD along with a possible contender from Apple.

Earlier this year BaDoinkVR started offering free previews of its content via a new channel on Pornhub, one of the world’s most popular porn sites. It was a big moment for VR porn, but it’s still early days for the industry in general. Still, Glider noted the collaboration had “translated to many new subscribers”.

360 video technology itself has some breakthroughs to make before content becomes truly immersive, though. It also remains to be seen just how accessible Oculus and HTC will make this kind of content going forward, and Sony’s PlayStation VR remains a big question mark. Will the upcoming HMD get on board with what could be a very lucrative market?
