PlayStation VR is bringing in some big exclusive titles for its launch next week, but Oculus Rift and HTC Vive owners may well get their hands on some of those games in the not too distant future.
Yesterday the PlayStation Europe Twitter account put out a post featuring a slideshow of some of the content coming to the anticipated headset. Among the games on the list is Rocksteady Games’ Batman: Arkham VR, which will be available on launch day, only on PS VR. Unlike first-party titles that will be exclusive to the headset indefinitely, the art for Arkham VR features a disclaimer at the bottom that confirms it will only be exclusive to PS VR until March 31st 2017.
That means that after that period Rocksteady is free to release the game on the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive as well. We’ve reached out to publisher Warner Bros. Interactive to confirm if there are any plans to do so.
Arkham VR casts players as the iconic comic book hero and allows them to explore famous locations like the Batcave whilst using his gadgets. The game uses the PlayStation Move motion controllers, so it probably couldn’t even support the Oculus Rift until its own position tracked devices, Oculus Touch, have released later this year.
That’s not all the tweet reveals; Capcom’s upcoming horror title, Resident Evil 7 biohazard, also hits in January on PS4, PC and Xbox One, but the PlayStation version is the only one to feature VR support. According to the tweet, PS VR will have the anticipated sequel as an exclusive for 12 months, meaning it could go elsewhere on January 24th 2018. Again, we’ve reached out to Capcom to confirm if there are plans for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive versions.
Exclusive VR content has been a controversial topic in 2016, especially on the PC side where games only appearing on the Oculus Rift have caused upset among some fans. With any luck we’ll see both of these titles come to PC-based VR headsets in the future. PS VR, meanwhile, hits on October 13th.
