Beat Saber Wins 2019 VR Game Of The Year At The Game Awards

The Game Awards happened tonight and the Best VR Game of the Year award was officially announced during the main show, rather than the pre-show, for the first time. This year the award went to Beat Saber. Yes, it was also nominated last year.

The Game Awards was streamed live to well over a million concurrent viewers across Twitch, YouTube, and various other streaming services. Just before the announcement, Oculus revealed that Asgard’s Wrath will be given away for free, for a limited time, to all new Oculus Rift S purchasers.

The full list of the Best VR/AR Game category nominees this year is as follows:

  • Asgard’s Wrath (Sanzaru Games/Oculus Studios)
  • Blood & Truth (SIE London Studio/SIE)
  • Beat Saber (Beat Games)
  • No Man’s Sky (Hello Games)
  • Trover Saves the Universe (Squanch Games)

If you’re reading this and the awards are still going on, you can watch them in VR right here with Oculus Venues too. Or you can tune in on Bigscreen if you don’t have an Oculus headset.

But if you’re more interested in our own personal nominees (let’s be real: you totally are, right?) we’re in the process of revealing our nominees. You can read about them all, as they’re announced right here. We’ll have 10 total and have revealed just the first four so far.

What do you think? Would you have picked this as your VR Game of the Year? Would it be something not on the list, like Stormland, Boneworks, or Pistol Whip? Let us know what you think of this win on the Game Awards tonight!
