Next week sees Jason Statham star in the most Jason Statham movie ever. The Meg will see the British action icon go head-to-head with a giant shark. We’re not exactly sure how he’ll martial art his way out of that one but, based on this new VR experience for the film, it won’t be easy.
Warner Bros launches this short VR teaser for the underwater thriller yesterday. It offers a brief but all-too-close encounter with some of the giant sharks that will be terrorizing the Transporter star in the movie. You can watch it below, though you’ll want to grab a smartphone and open it in the YouTube app if you want to experience it in VR. It’s also available on Samsung’s VR video platform but, considering Gear VR now has YouTube, you might as well just watch it there.
It’s not the best movie tie-in we’ve ever seen (and we’d have preferred to see a full VR experience skin to PSVR World’s ocean-diving piece), but who can turn down the chance to be eaten by a shark?
The Meg is in mercifully flat-screened cinemas August 10th.
