The Big Releases
Spark of Light, by Pillow’s Willow VR Studio
Price: $7.99 (Gear)
This is a charming little third-person adventure in which you control a young boy on a quest to save his friends from eternal sleep (or, y’know, death). Guide him around fantastical environments, solving puzzles and overcoming obstacles in what promises to be family friendly fun for the Gear VR.
Recommendation: Gear VR gamers should snap this up.
Kingdom City Drowning: Ep.1 – The Champion, from Pheonix Champion
Price: $4.99 (Rift)
We’ve been looking forward to Kingdom City Drowning for a little while. It’s a new VR series of short stories built inside Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4. Set in a hazy, toxic future city, you follow a prisoner’s attempt to escape his hellish confines as he struggles with past trauma. It sounds like VR’s very own Sin City. We can’t complain.
Recommendation: A great exploration of VR and film. Don’t miss it.
Form, from Charm Games
Price: $14.99 (Rift, currently discounted)
One of our favorite HTC Vive games of the year so far finally comes to the Oculus Rift. Form is a short but oh so sweet puzzle experience in which surreal landscapes and objects come to life in front of you. It’s an existential piece that will leave you mulling over its ambiguous story.
Recommendation: One of the best VR games of the year so far. Get it.
Chroma Lab, from Sean Tann
Price: $4.99 (Rift, currently discounted)
This gorgeous VR particle physics sandbox looks absolutely incredible. Play with color like never before as you interact with thousands of tiny particles that you can bend and build to your choosing and then smash into glorious works of art. There might not be much game to it, as such, but we could see ourselves losing hours in it.
Recommendation: Definitely pick this one up.
Cosmic Awakening, from 3D Generation
Price: $24.99 (Rift, currently discounted)
Don’t worry horror fans, we haven’t forgotten you. Cosmic Awakening gives you this week’s dose of VR scares with a creepy adventure set onboard a space ship. Search for your missing crew and uncover the mysteries of what happened as you fight for your life in this scary story.
Recommendation: For those that love to be chilled.
