Last week may have been quiet for this week is absolutely bursting with big new releases for your Oculus Rift and Gear VR. Fitting, considering Oculus had a big week at Connect 4. Let’s jump right in.
If you missed the previous entry of this list you can see those new releases here. And don’t forget that UploadVR has a Steam community group, complete with a curated list of recommendations so that you don’t have to waste any money finding out what’s good in VR.
The Big Releases
The Invisible Hours, from Tequilla Work
Price: $29.99 (Rift)
The developers of Rime make their VR debut with this enthralling VR murder mystery. Follow a story that unfolds in real time in an open world, allowing you to tour the halls of a mansion following specific characters, then rewinding time to find out what the rest of the cast has been up to. Investigate the murder of Nikola Tesla on a dark and stormy night.
Recommendation: Don’t miss this. There’s nothing quite like it.
Arktika.1, from 4A Games
Price: $29.99 (Rift)
A polished VR shooter with at least five hours of gameplay awaits you here. From the makers of the Metro series, Arktika transports you to a wintery wasteland in Russia to defend a human colony from bandits and monsters. Over the course of 11 missions you’ll shoot your way through environments with an arsenal of diverse weaponry.
Recommendation: Arktika is initially entertaining but wears out its welcome by the end.
Space Pirate Trainer, from I-Illusions
Price: $14.99 (Rift, currently discounted)
One of VR’s original wave shooters finally emerges from Early Access this week. This arcade-themed shooter focuses on high scores and stylish action, tasking you with taking down wave after wave of drones. Use a range of weaponry to turn the enemy into scrap metal and feel awesome doing it.
Recommendation: Space Pirate Trainer is one of VR’s best wave shooters. Don’t miss it.
Elevator… to the Moon!, from Roccat Games
Price: $7.99 (Rift and Gear)
In Elevator… to the Moon you build and elevator… to the moon. Duh! Follow the increasingly ridiculous demands of the President of the World to repair his impossible creation. We’d say it’s a riff on Trump but, weirdly, the president actually sounds more like a certain politician.
Recommendation: Worth a look for sure.
The Well, from Turtle Rock Studios
Price: $9.99 (Gear)
A gorgeous new RPG from the makers of Face Your Fears. The Well drops you into a fantasy world to take part in dungeon crawler-style battles.
Recommendation: Absolutely grab this if you’re a Gear gamer.
