Anthem VR Spotted At BioWare Christmas Party

Anthem VR Spotted At BioWare Christmas Party

Mass Effect developer BioWare is moving onto pastures new with its latest franchise, Anthem. Announced at E3 2017, the game will see the developer try its hand at a new universe with new characters.

It might also have a VR tie-in that you’ll never get to see for yourself.

Jay Watamaniuk, a writer at the developer, tweeted pictures of the BioWare Christmas party over the weekend. In the image below, originally spotted on Reddit, you can see the phrase ‘Anthem VR’ written on a wall (you’ll need to enlarge it to really see it). Watamaniuk didn’t comment on the sign himself, but it does suggest that there may have been a VR version of the game for attendees to try at the party.

It’s more than likely that any VR demo was created for the purposes of this party alone; Anthem promises to be a huge game and publisher EA hasn’t committed to long-term VR support just yet given the platform’s low install base (though it did work with Sony on a Star Wars VR experiences last year). It’s not uncommon for developers to mock up prototypes of their games for VR headsets, though, even if they never get past the experimental stage. The developers of Titanfall did exactly the same thing.

In fact, one Reddit member even claims to have tried the experience, saying that it is indeed intended for internal use only, though we can’t verify this account.

Still, it would be great to get at least a small peek of what the VR demo looks like. Perhaps we could see it at future trade shows as a booth attraction?
