Star Wars fans will soon be able to use the power of AR to find out more about the latest entry in the series, The Last Jedi.
Disney and LucasFilm today announced Find the Force, a global AR event kicking off on September 1st. As IGN reports, from next month, over 20,000 retail locations across 30 countries will feature Star Wars graphics that fans will be able to scan with their phones to project a character appearing in the this holiday’s sequel.
They’ll show up in AR, much in the same was Pokemon appear in the real world through your smartphone in Niantic’s Pokemon Go. You or a friend can jump into the image to hang out with your virtual companion, and future scans will unlock more rewards.
If you’re in the US then there’s a good chance you’ll find one of these locations not too far from you, though there are also options to find some online, like with Amazon. You can find the full list of participating retailers across the globe here. The event runs until September 3rd.
The Last Jedi hits in December. We wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot more tie-in promotions using VR and AR in the weeks leading up to launch. In fact we’ve already seen a very promising AR lightsaber game that’s in the works.
