Surprise! Catan VR is now available for Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2.
While we did hear a few rumblings here and there, the announcement of a Catan VR release for Quest headsets has kind of taken us by surprise. It’s available to download right now for $14.99.
Catan VR originally launched for Oculus Rift and Gear VR in 2018, and later made its way onto the Oculus Go.
The VR version is based on the popular board game of the same name (previously known as Settlers of Catan) which released in 1995 and is designed for 3-4 players. On Oculus Quest, the game will support friend invites along with matchmaking, as well as an mode to play against AI opponents. Cross-platform play is also supported, so Quest players will be able to invite and compete against players on Rift or Go as well.
This VR version of Catan was developed in conjunction with the original Catan board game creators, father and son Klaus and Benjamin Teuber. Speaking of the Rift version in 2018, Klaus said that witnessing the game he developed with his father come to life in VR was incredible. “I never imagined actually stepping into the world of Catan when we first starting making cut-outs and dreaming about exploring new lands.”
A mobile AR game based on Catan is also being developed by Pokemon Go developers Niantic and is expected to open up in beta soon. You can read more about how to sign up here.
