Between games like Bait! and Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV, we’ve had plenty of time to fish in VR. That said, Catch & Release looks like a much more authentic take on the genre than those two games.
VFX studio Metricminds is working on this relaxing experience, which is due to release on PSVR, Rift, Vive and Windows. It places players on a boat in a sun-lit lake and lets them take a load off as they row around the water and then cast their rods. Any fish you catch you can place in an ice bucket next to you. You can even grab a Polaroid-style camera to take snaps and pretend to eat a sandwich, if that’s your thing.
The game will feature over 30 music tracks, with audio coming from a radio on your boat, while there’s also secret treasure to uncover across the lake. As you can tell from the trailer, this looks like a soothing kind of experience that wisely mixes in interactive elements to keep you in its tranquil world. The ambient noise on the game’s website gives you a pretty good idea of the tone it’s trying to establish.
No word yet on when the game will launch but we’ll keep you updated.
