Having stormed the cinema with its latest trilogy, the apes are setting their sights on a new platform – VR.
Crisis on the Planet of the Apes is a full VR game developed by the new FoxNext VR Studio. It’s a first-person shooter in which, yes, you play as one of the intelligent apes that rises up to form a new civilization on Earth. The game is set in between Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and sees you trying to escape from a detention facility in which humans are experimenting on you in search of a cure.
Playing as an ape might sound a little odd but it actually introduces some unique gameplay mechanics. You’ll be able to clamber up and along pipes using your hands for example, and execute huge jumps to cover ground. When you’re not crawling around you’ll be armed with an assault rifle to take down human enemies.
Check out some gameplay in the trailer below. It looks like a uniquely mobile VR shooter.
Crisis on the Planet of the Apes will launch on April 3rd for PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive and cost $15.
