Detached is a game that any fan of space-based VR should have on their radar, and now you can see why for yourself.
Developer Anshar Studios has today released the first gameplay footage of its first-person multiplayer experience, in which two players go head-to-head in the depths of space. This first video showcases a new mode named Package Extraction, which I got to play a few weeks back. Here players must first race to collect one of two power ups, and then use whichever they receive to secure a package hidden within a facility and get it to an extraction site. That’s easier said than done; each match is a giant game of tag in which players will steal the package off of each other.
I thought the mode was an intriguing take on cat ‘n’ mouse gameplay that was impressively comfortable. The laser stun power up demands you be precise with aiming as your opponent dances around, while the ramming boost attack also risks sending you way off course. Each power also defines a different course you must take to get through the level. It also helps that the game is pretty great to look at. It’s undoubtedly fun, though I’m looking forward to seeing what else Detached has in store for players to prove that it’s worth their money.
But that’s not the only news Anshar Studios has to share today. Sadly, the full release of Detached on both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive isn’t due until early 2017, but anyone that’s pre-purchased the game via its official website will be able to get into a private beta starting today. It includes a single multiplayer map and the game’s latest features. Steam keys are now being sent out to fans and anyone that pre-orders it from now on will also get into the testing. Of course, you’ll have to have a Rift or Vive handy to actually play; there’s no non-VR version planned for the beta program.
You can expect to see plenty more from Detached in the build up to launch over the next few months.
