Stepping into the shoes of the Doctor and exploring the infinite possibilities of time and space in VR sounds pretty amazing, right? Well, that’s not really what Doctor Who’s first VR game is about.
Doctor Who Time Vortex VR is a new WebVR game that you can play in your browser on the HTC Vive or with mobile-based headsets like Cardboard, Daydream and Gear VR. Whovians might be a bit disappointed with the Doctor’s first VR offering, though; instead of jumping into the Tardis and turning your Vive wand into a sonic screwdriver, this is instead an endless runner. Yup, all you do is navigate the Tardis through a never-ending series of obstacles.
Check out the trailer below. It supports non-VR play too.
It’s not the most ambitious exploration of the Doctor’s universe in VR, then, but at least it’s free. With the BBC recently launching its new VR Hub, perhaps we can expect something bigger and better in the New Year?
