Espire 1 Delayed Out Of August, Now Releasing 'Later This Year'

According to publisher Tripwire Interactive on Twitter, Espire 1: VR Operative, the highly anticipated VR stealth action shooter, is now releasing “a little later this year” instead of the originally targeted August timeframe.

The news comes during Gamescom, where the company is showing off the latest demo. We awarded Espire 1 our Best Game of Show” award at E3 2019 and have had great things to report from hands-on time with it on both PC VR headsets like Rift as well as on Quest. It’s also coming to PSVR at the same time.

One of my other Senior Editor colleagues, Jamie Feltham, got the chance to try it out at Gamescom this week and is just as keen to play the full thing as ever before. You can see what he had to say in our recap video.

Espire 1 is shaping up to be an impressive VR stealth game from what we’ve seen. You play as an android that can climb across any metal surface, sneak around in the shadows, and do lots of Metal Gear Solid-esque things. You can even sneak up behind characters and verbally say “Freeze!” into the microphone to make them hold their arms up like stick up.

We’ve only seen small slices of the game thus far, but we’ve told it’ll be a full campaign with lots of challenge objectives with unlockable cheats for replayability — similar to what Defector did earlier this year.
