Could this be the first Epic Games Store exclusive to support VR? Outlerloop Games’ delightful bird-based adventure, Falcon Age, is coming to PC VR this summer.
The developer broke the news on the Kinda Funny Games E3 Showcase earlier this week. The store listing has since gone live which confirms that, yes, VR is supported. Outerloop’s Chandana Ekanayake confirmed that includes SteamVR and Oculus support. That includes Valve Index, which we think makes a perfect fit. Here’s a lovely trailer.
I was quite fond of Falcon Age when it launched on PSVR a few months ago. In the game, you play as a resistance fighter on a planet colonized by an intergalactic megacorporation. Aiding you on your journey is a falcon that can be used to attack and scavenge. Better yet, you build a bond with your feathered friend by petting them, feeding them and even dressing them up with adorable hats.
“Falcon Age nurtures a soft spot inside of you, one big enough to overlook many of its technical shortcomings,” we said in our review. “It’s a sentimental game, one that knows VR’s ability to build relationships is as compelling as and additive to any other feature. It never fully capitalizes on that connection in the way you might expect, but it’s a spark of companionship to be cherished all the same. That’s something the industry could use a little more of.”
The game had a fair few technical hitches, though some of these were tied to being on PS4. Combine the updates Outerloop has since launched with expanded power of the PC and we’ll be keen to see how this version holds up. No exact release date just yet but keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks.
