Didn’t think you’d see a full story-driven VR FPS on PlayStation VR any time soon? Think again.
Sony has announced Farpoint, a brand new title for the device. Judging by a brief trailer shown at the company’s E3 2016 press conference this will be a sci-fi title in which players explore a desert-like planet, armed with a rifle. Judging by the movement of that rifle, it looks like the game will be controlled using the PlayStation Move motion controllers. At one point the gun was used to bring up a scan. A grenade counter was also stored on the gun.
There’s still a lot to learn about Farpoint. It’s being developed by Impulse Gear, a San Francisco-based developer founded in 2013 and dedicated to exploring VR videogames. Elements like plot and release date, however, remain unclear at this this time. It’s also not yet clear if it will come to other HMDs such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
PlayStation VR, meanwhile, will be launching on October 13th 2016 for $399. A host of exciting new games have been announced for the title tonight, including the surprise return of the Resident Evil franchise with Resident Evil VII, a new Batman title and even a VR trailer of sorts for the upcoming Final Fantasy XV. It’s an incredibly impressive line-up, and new IP like Farpoint only serve to strengthen it.
One things clear; waiting for PlayStation VR just got a lot harder.
