Farpoint, Resident Evil, Lone Echo Nominated In 2017 Game Awards

The nominations for the 2017 Game Awards have just been revealed and, thankfully, the VR and AR category has a much stronger representation that it did in 2016.

Last year saw the debut of the VR category for the awards, but it only featured PlayStation VR (PSVR) launch titles. Most of this year’s nominations are on PSVR too, but they’re spread out and there’s a little love for the other headsets in there.

On the multiplaform front, Ubisoft’s Star Trek: Bridge Crew and shooter sensation, Superhot VR both lead the pack (the latter only just makes it into the nominations, having debuted on Oculus Rift shortly after 2016’s awards). On Rift, meanwhile, the cinematic sci-fi thrills of Ready at Dawn’s Lone Echo has also earned it a nod.

Last up we have Sony shooters on PSVR; Impulse Gear’s Farpoint gets a mention as does the terrifyingly brilliant Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Crucially, The Game Awards are user-voted, meaning you can put your full weight behind the game you believe should win. Did Jack’s space odyssey sway your heart? Or should the Baker family take home the prize? You decide.

Overall it’s a pretty good list even if it misses off some of our personal favorites like The Gallery Episode 2 or beautifully surreal puzzler, Form. you can see what we’ve picked as our favorite VR games of the year so far over here, but with big releases like Fallout 4 and LA Noire: The VR Case Files on the horizon that list looks likely to change within a few weeks’ time.

The Game Awards take place on December 7th.
