Forget VR: Resident Evil 7 Is Getting A Real Experience In London

Imagine being able to visit a world you’ve already explored in VR in real life. Would it feel like you’ve already been there? Would you know it inside out? You can put those questions to the test this month.

We’re just a few weeks away from the launch of Resident Evil 7, arguably the biggest game yet to support VR. But before you get immersed in the horror virtually, you can do it in real life.

Capcom is hosting an escape room-esque Resident Evil 7 Experience in London from 20th – 23rd January. In it, you’ll enter the home of the Baker family, which you can currently explore in the demo available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 (where you can try it in PlayStation VR too). Over 45 minutes you’ll join a paranormal TV production team called The Sewer Gators as an intern reporter looking for your missing crew. If you’ve played the demo, you’ll know exactly where they are but we won’t spoil anything.

If you want to try it out for yourself then you’ll need to head to Dray Walk Gallery at 91 Brick Lane, London E1 6QL. You’ll have to be eager, though; only 28 pairs of tickets will be given away each day.

It’s an interesting way to bring players into the world of the game for sure, and even more intriguing considering that it’s bringing an environment some of us have already explored in VR to life.

Personally, I can’t really handle Resident Evil 7 in VR, so the idea of experiencing it in real life is a no-go. But if you’re ready and willing to scare the life out of yourself then be my guest. Don’t forget you can also pick up a Resident Evil 7 VR candle that’s meant to bring the game’s musty scents to your nose too. These are some of the more unusual PR stunts we’ve seen for a game in recent years.

Resident Evil 7 is launching on January 24th with full support for PlayStation VR. In the meantime, check out our coward’s guide to surviving the game, and our hands-on with the terrifying demo.
