While most people still identify Sasha Grey as a prolific adult film star, she has actually moved on from that phase of her life. A quick glance at her IMDB page shows several non-pornographic Hollywood films and TV shows she’s been a part of and she’s even started producing music and writing books. This woman continues to break boundaries and expand her horizons.
And in most cases, that new horizon will include virtual reality. Grey told CNBC in an interview that, “VR is such an exciting new medium; it’s a young technology so the possibilities are infinite.”
For a talent such as Grey, it’s certainly an exciting time. She has always been a longtime fan of new technology and gaming in particularly, positioning her as the ideal demographic for our budding new immersive medium.
However, her thoughts on VR porn are, surprisingly, less enthusiastic.
“VR porn is too much, too in your face. I watched a trailer once, and that was enough for me,” she said. “I don’t think people watch porn to have a real experience, it’s for fantasy. VR porn is like watching porn on a big-screen TV…I don’t want it to be too real.”
But anyone that watches or is familiar with porn knows that there is something out there for everyone. While Grey may not be a fan of the idea of VR porn, plenty of people are already. Searches for “VR porn” online are reaching all-time high numbers increasing nearly 10,000% in just 17 months.
“With younger generations, it could be [popular] but I’d rather just have the real thing,” admits Grey. “Time will tell. In a way, porn has always guided tech, like a sort of muse.”
One of the former queens of porn may not be a big fan of how VR is being used to film, view, and promote the most popular form of content on the internet, but chances are it’s here to stay either way.
