Gang Beats Getting PSVR Support Following Next Month's PS4 Launch

Madcap indie brawler Gang Beasts made a happy home on the Oculus Rift last year, and now it’s optional VR support is due for a new platform: PlayStation VR (PSVR).

This week publisher Double Fine confirmed that Boneloaf’s hectic multiplayer game is coming to PS4 on December 12th, giving us about two weeks to prepare. We’d previously heard Gang Beasts would be getting PSVR support after launch but, to be frank, that was over a year ago and we didn’t know if those plans were still intact.

Turns out they are; Double Fine’s James Spafford confirmed as much in the comments section of the PlayStation Blog. No word on when the patch will hit specifically, but we’d expect it to be in the new year.

In VR, Gang Beasts offers the same crazy third-person gameplay, but allows you to lean into the action as if it was really taking place below you. Players take on the roles of colorful brawlers and proceed to punch, kick and grab each other, eventually trying to haul the opposition out of the ring. The PS4 version is going to come with new modes, like a wave-based survival option and more.

We gave the VR version of Gang Beasts 7/10 when it launched on Rift. “If you’re looking for a fiendishly fun multiplayer experience on your Rift then look no further,” we said at the time. “You will not be disappointed by picking up Gang Beasts VR. But if you’re looking for anything other than some fun competition and a good laugh, or if you’ve already played it outside of VR, then your time and money may be better spent elsewhere despite the fun to be had.”
