2018 is set to be a big year for Magic Leap with the launch of its first headset, and it looks like the company plans to get the ball rolling at GDC this week.
Yesterday company Founder and CEO Rony Abovitz took to Twitter to tease that there would be some “cool news” for Magic Leap creators coming this week. Given the timing, that certainly suggests the company has something in-store for GDC. When Magic Leap launched its new website late last year it noted that a ‘Creator Portal’ for its platform is arriving in ‘Early 2018’. This portal will “open access” to the company’s software development kit (SDK) and offer support for developing on the platform.
Some cool news for @magicleap creators coming next week – stay tuned ?

It could be that this week’s news concerns of the launch of that portal, then, which may possibly include details on developer kit rollout.
The announcement could come pretty soon, too. Magic Leap has two big talks planned for the show; tomorrow it will discuss ‘Mixed Reality: Bringing Games and AI to the Real World‘ and on Thursday it’s running a session titled ‘The World is Your Playground: Deep Dive on Developing for Spatial Computing‘.
But there could be a little more to it than that, even. Following a job posting that teased the company’s retail plans, Next Reality has spotted a trademark filing from Magic Leap for something called the Mag!c Shop. It could be that this concerns the company’s plans for physical retail space, or perhaps it might tease the platform on which developers will be able to sell their AR software. Either way, we’ll hopefully find out later this week.
