GDC is always an exciting time to be a VR developer, and even marks the anniversary of the reveal of Sony’s PlayStation VR (PSVR) headset. The company is returning to the event in two weeks’ time with a handful of VR events, too.
While Sony will be showcasing the excellent Moss and the soon-to-release Bravo Team at the show in San Francisco this year, there are two VR-relevant talks to look our for, too. The first, taking place on Monday, 19th March at 1:20pm PT sees Ian Bickerstaff, Director of Immersive Video Technology, Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe, talking about the making of the Joshua Bell VR video that released on the headset last year. Bickerstaff will discuss how the company created the illusion of full volumetric video to enable positional tracking in this experience.
PlayStation VR Worlds and Blood & Truth developer Sony London Studio will also be at the show. Cinematic Animation Lead, Gabor, Soos, will be talking about Player Engagement in VR Cinematics during the show, exploring how the team balances user engagement in cut-scenes in VR games. That session takes place on Thursday 22nd March at 2pm. If you’re looking for more, there’s also the Ask Developer Relations @GDC station to talk about bringing titles to both PS4 and PSVR.
No word yet on if Sony will actually have any VR-related announcements for the show, though it’s the time of year when we start looking toward E3 for the big reveals.
