A contest is being held for creators to use Google’s Blocks VR creation software and incorporate the robot building blocks posted by Jarlan Perez, a 3D artist at Google, for the chance to win a $50 Steam gift card.
Entries can be delivered as a still image, video, GIF or Blocks Gallery and need to include the #BotsWithBlocks hashtag when posted to the Blocks Gallery and social media. The models can be integrated into other software in preparing the final submission but the original creation “must be made in Blocks,” according to the contest rules.
The full rules are covered in this tweet from Perez:
#BotsWithBlocks is live!! Spread the word. Let’s make some bots!

Google’s Blocks software released fairly recently but it has already been used to model a wide range of cool objects. Its potential could be enormous as the objects can be easily exported to other software platforms like Unity for incorporation into more interactive content.
The VR community is teeming with a number of talented artists who could easily contribute to this contest. Entries need to be turned in by Aug. 20th and we hope to see some cool things popping up under the BotsWithBlocks hashtag in the coming days as a big turnout might encourage Google to support even bigger contests in the future.
So get building if you’ve got an HTC Vive or Oculus Rift!
