Hellsweeper VR will release September 21 on PC VR, Quest 2 and PSVR 2.
Publisher Vertigo Games announced the news alongside a new trailer today, ahead of the game's release in the fall.
Originally set to release last year, a few delays saw Hellsweeper pushed from late 2022 to Q2 2023 and now into late Q3. However, this is the first nailed-down release date for the game, so it feels a bit more set in stone. Plus, eager players will be able to give the game a try very soon.
Alongside the release date and trailer, Vertigo announced that a demo of Hellsweeper VR will be available as part of the Steam Next Fest from June 19 to 26. Vertigo says that the demo will feature "the compete offering: all game modes, weapons, magic, and five different maps to explore!"
We enjoyed Hellsweeper's fast-paced and intense combat when we tried it last year on the Gamescom show floor. The standout feature was the gesture-based weapon system, which let you conjure weapons into your hands and merge them together to illuminate creative new combos:
If you summon an item in each hand, you can smash them together to create a unique combination with different effects. Smashing my fireball onto my sword, for example, gave me a flaming sword. Likewise, combining a fireball and a bow together creates flaming arrows. You can even combine multiples of the same spell together – two fireballs merge to create one massive ball of energy, which I could shoot across the map and detonate at will.
Hellsweeper launches on Quest 2, PSVR 2 and PC VR this September, with the Steam Next Fest demo available from June 19.
