E3 is, excitingly, just around the corner, and companies are starting to let us know when their big showcases for the year will take place. Sony just added itself to that list.
The company’s media showcase is taking its usual spot this year, kicking off at 6pm PT on Monday 12th June, the day before E3 itself opens. Sony hasn’t said anything else about this year’s briefing, but you can expect to see the latest updates on PS4 and, hopefully, PSVR games at the show.
Last year’s E3 showcase was one to remember for VR fans. It was there that we learned Resident Evil 7 would be fully compatible with PSVR, and got the first glimpse of Batman: Arkham VR and the Star Wars: Battlefront X-Wing Mission. It was also where we were first introduced to Farpoint, Sony’s first stab at a big VR first-person shooter (FPS) which will be arriving alongside its Aim controller later this month.
If this E3 showing is half as eventful for PSVR then it’ll still be one to remember. Past the release of Farpoint we really don’t have much of an idea about what’s coming to PSVR; the second half of the year is barren for release and the company will need to prove to us that it’s worth investing in the headset (or holding onto it) in the months to come.
Elsewhere, Microsoft already booked its E3 conference a while back, switching from its usual early Monday slot to a Sunday showing where it’s finally set to pull back the curtain on the mysterious Project Scorpio console that will also be getting VR support sometime in 2018. Bethesda’s E3 conference will also take place that Sunday, and we’ve been promised a fresh look at the company’s VR port of RPG hit, Fallout 4.
All-in-all it’s shaping up to be a very busy show for the VR industry. We’ll be there to bring you all the latest.
