At $799, the HTC Vive Pro is one of the most expensive VR headsets currently on the market. For Amazon’s Prime Day this week, it will still be one of the most expensive VR headsets currently on the market, but it will come with some extra goodies.
Specifically, any Prime Member that picks up the enhanced headset from 12pm PT today until 8:59pm tomorrow, July 17th, will get a $50 Amazon voucher and a $50 Viveport voucher as well as two free months of HTC’s Viveport Subscription. So that’s $50 on news apps to pick up for your new Vive and then perhaps $50 to go on things to enhance your setup; you could get a Vive Tracker for half the $100 price, perhaps? Or maybe some shiny base station mounts. Or just skip this VR nonsense and get that new toaster you’ve had your eye on.
Or, you could hold onto that Amazon voucher and get even more Viveport content – Amazon is soon set to start selling apps from the service.
The Viveport Subscription, meanwhile, allows you to download a set number of apps for a month, choosing from a library of hundreds of titles that includes the likes of Tilt Brush. You get to play those apps as much as you’ve like for the month, and then you can either choose them again the following month or pick new ones.
It looks like this deal only counts for the base Vive Pro unit, as the SteamVR 2.0 bundle isn’t showing up on Amazon US at the time of writing. Maybe you’ll want to spend that $50 on some controllers and a base station, then.
