The asymmetric VR co-op puts players in the shoes of either the Operator or Installer. Operators hang back in the van and relay important information via mobile phone, while installers virtually put themselves on the front lines inside the Elsewhere Electric facility. But don’t get it twisted – if you’re not working together, you won’t make it out alive.
Installers will need to hone their special senses. Encounter invisible creatures that will do anything to thwart the mission, decode perplexing symbols, and solve environmental puzzles that stop you from moving further through the Elsewhere Electric facility. Again, without your operator, you’ll get nowhere, so make sure to communicate clearly and often.
The van outside provides the energy – often referred to as “juice” – needed to charge machines and turn on the lights inside the facility. Installers just need to stick their finger in… well, they need to stick their finger in the socket to juice up. Believe it or not, this will power up the gadgets necessary to move forward. Sometimes, the operator can see what you’re doing, and other times, it’ll come down to that communication mentioned earlier.
Both team members need to decode the ciphered language on the keypads – codes aren’t as simple as 1, 2, 3, though. Physically describe what you see on the screen and hope that your buddy gets what you’re talking about because what a jellyfish is to one person, might be a muffin top to another. Certain symbols will reoccur during your playthrough but are randomized between each successful level, increasing the difficulty over time.
It's easy to get started with Elsewhere Electric. Players only need a phone, a headset, and a friend to get things going! The game can keep you engaged by being difficult to master and challenging by design. Players who are passionate about escape rooms and difficult puzzlers like Davigo or The Witness can ready up for a new VR hybrid experience.
