You know those really confusing, strange perfume advertisements? The ones that don’t really tell you what the fragrance smells like? VR just got its first one starring none other than Kate Moss.
As reported by The Industry, the iconic fashion model makes her VR debut in Scent of a Dream, the first fragrance from make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury. Directed by Antoine Wagner and produced by a studio named Happy Finish, the film comes in at just under three minutes in length.
And, yes, it’s utterly weird and it really doesn’t tell you much about the product. You can see Moss dancing like some sort of weird space god before being transported to a party, seemingly seeking to consume another human. Then multiple versions of Moss appear before she turns into the fragrance bottle herself. I have absolutely no idea what’s going on but, hey, I guess I’m not the target market for this kind of thing. I’m sure it makes sense to someone somewhere.
As always, you can watch the video in a number of ways, but the best results come from viewing it inside a mobile VR headsets like Google Cardboard or Gear VR. The latter should support the video via Samsung’s Internet Browser app, while Cardboard users will need to head into either the iOS or Android YouTube app, load up the video, tap the Cardboard icon and then put the phone in the headset. Alternatively, you can just view it in a broswer and drag the mouse around, or tilt your phone too.
This is one way in which VR fashion can collide; as an extension of the media we’re already used to. Still, we’d like to see more innovative solutions going forwards; perhaps fragrance companies should shoot Ubisoft an email and see if that can borrow the Nosolus Rift.
Okay, maybe not.
