Lightfield Captured Hallelujah Launches On Within Today

Lightfield Captured Hallelujah Launches On Within Today

Back in April we reported on the reveal of a partnership between VR filmmaking company Within and lightfield capture company Lytro. The pair debuted their first collaboration, Hallelujah, at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival. Now you can see it for yourself.

As the name suggests, Hallelujah presents a new rendition of the classic Leonard Cohen song. Using Lyrto’s lightfield technology, Tribeca attendees were able to explore a full, photorealistic environment with six degrees of freedom. It features a performance from  Bobby Halvorson, aided by a choir, signing directly at the viewer, making for an intimate and engulfing experience.

Now the experience is available in the Within app, meaning you can watch it on VR headsets like Rift, Vive and Gear VR. Sadly this version of the video doesn’t support full movement (you can only turn your head), but it’s still well worth watching as a pre-rendered experience. As you might imagine, it’s best to enjoy this one with headphones. If you just want to watch it without VR it’s available above.

The full experience will be on show as a museum exhibit dedicated to Cohen at the MAC Museum in Montreal starting this fall.
