RIGS: Mechanized Combat League has gone gold this week. That means Guerrilla Cambridge’s multiplayer FPS is ready for launch on PlayStation VR. But there’s still so much to learn about the project.
To that end, plenty of new details about the anticipated arena shooter have been revealed this week as part of Sony’s own spotlight series. First up, we have a new mech to marvel at, called the Sentinel. The developer refers to it as a “heavyweight beast” that’s designed to protect Goals and Endzones in the game’s maps.It boasts heavy armor and an improved melee attack that makes its great for close combat, which is something we haven’t seen much from yet. It stands six meters tall and can reach a top speed of 49 Mph. It’s even got a slam attack allowing it to land on enemies from above.
The trailer below features both the new machine and the other mechs you’ll be able to hope into soon.
Next up are some new maps. There’s another trailer to go along with the reveal below, but the developer also detailed each one in another blog post. It looks like RIGS features a total of four maps, each with variations for the game’s Power Slam, Endzone and Team Takedown modes. They include an evolved version of Rio de Janeiro, a Dubai arena on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf, the sandy Nevada desert, and a massive casino themed complex in Macau. Hopefully map design makes up for the small amount of them, but maybe Guerrilla Cambridge will add more with post-launch DLC.
Still, RIGS has all the makings of a standout hit for PlayStation VR when it launches alongside the headset on October 13th. We recently had another hands-on session with the game as part of our 50 Days Of PS VR countdown and came away surprised at just how accessible a shooter it is considering it’s debuting on a radical new technology.
Don’t take our word for it; you’ll be able to play RIGS yourself in just a few weeks’ time.
