New Oculus and Gear VR Releases For The Week Of 09/25/16

Oculus Connect next week! New games! More Touch! Until then? There’s a handful of VR releases on both Gear VR and Oculus Rift that are worth checking out, but nothing too life changing here.

If you missed last week, you can see those new releases here. And don’t forget that UploadVR has a Steam community group, complete with a curated list of recommendations so that you don’t have to waste any money finding out what’s good in the world of VR.

We also have a top list of the best Rift games and best Gear VR games— both of which are updated every few months with the latest and greatest options.

Gun Sight, from Climax Studios
Price: $6.99 (Gear, currently discounted to $4.99)

Probably the biggest launch in the Oculus ecosystem this week. Gun Sight is a fun throwback to the days of Contra with a VR twist. Battle your way through levels with a machine gun whilst also unleashing special attacks. Includes a campaign mode along with extras like survival.

Recommendation: If you have a gamepad, you should definitely get this.

Z-Strike, from Lucid Sight
Price: Free

The developer of Polyrunner VR and Space Bit Attack returns with another free experience. This takes a dash of Call of Duty’s aerial combat levels and mixes it with the zombie apocalypse, allowing you to rain down fire on hordes of the undead.

Recommendation: Worth trying out for free.

Goal Keeper, from yode
Price: Free

What it says on the tin. Use Gear VR’s head tracking to defend incoming penalty shots on a football pitch. It’s a nice idea (and, amazingly, not a rip off of Head Master), though the presentation definitely needs some work.

Recommendation: If the mechanics are solid this should be a fun one.

Pupil, from SpoonNetwork
Price: $0.99 (Gear)

Here’s this week’s dose of VR horror. We don’t know much about Pupil, which is probably a good thing, b but it looks like you explore an abandoned school and investigate a mystery. It looks like it could be a pretty chilling experience.

Recommendation: For VR horror fans only.

Starfighter Arduxim, from Fulby Technologies
Price: $7.99 (Gear)

If you’re looking for a little EVE: Valkyrie-style adaption on Gear VR, then this might be for you. It’s a tactical space shooter that comes with 12 campaign missions. It obviously doesn’t have the polish of big projects, but it could be fun.

Recommendation: If you need more cockpit action, this is for you. We thought it was decent.

Jump, from Endeavor One
Price: $9.99

Three guesses what JUMP is all about. This is a first-person platformer of sorts in which you have a super jumping ability. you head to different cities from around the world including Tokyo, Detroit, Seattle, and Philadelphia.

Recommendation: You might struggle with sickness her, but it could be fun for those with an iron stomach.

Zombie Room Attack, from Applied AR
Price: Free

A zombie first-person shooter in which you awaken in a hospital room and find the undead swarming in through three doors. Shoot them before they start nibbling on your legs. It’s only in early access right now.

Recommendation: This doesn’t sound especially thrilling, but hey, it’s free.

The Dream Dimension, from Infigment Studios
Price: Free

A new adventure game in which you explore different dream worlds and collect shards to open up new levels. You’ll go beyond earth and find new alien planets and magical ruins. There are eight levels right now with more to come later on.

Recommendation: Pretty unremarkable. We’d pass.

Schwein MMU, from Duckie
Price: $4.99

Another face shooter for Gear VR. This one has a pretty cool mech asthetic to it, using huge rail guns to blast things away in space. Still, it’s not the most exciting release of the week an Gunjack would soon make you forget about it.

Recommendation: Pass.

offroad-vr

Offroad: VR, from bcInteractive
Price: $7.99

If DiRT Rally isn’t thrilling enough for you, then maybe Offroad: VR will scratch and itch. This is a full on exploration game from the seat of your car in which you’ll trample over wildlife and generally ruin mother nature.

Recommendation: Something different. Thumbs up from us.

Ahros: One Warrior Chronicle, from 4 I Lab
Price: $19.99

You can ride on the back of dragons in this game. DRAGONS. I don’t need to tell you any more. Okay, but seriously, this looks like a pretty compelling VR adventure game, you’ll just have to wait out its Early Access period to see if it reaches its full potential.

Recommendation: Maybe wait until full release.
