New PSVR Releases For The Week Of 02/19/17

Welcome to your weekly round-up of all things PlayStation VR (PSVR)! If I sound chirppy this week, it’s because we’ve actually got some new games to discuss. There’s been a high-profile release over the last seven days, along with an indie launch that might appeal to fans of The Playroom VR’s Robot Rescue.

If you missed last week, you can see those new releases here. Also, UploadVR has launched the ‘UploadVR PS VR Community’ on PlayStation 4! Join up, find other gamers to play with, and engage in discussions with them.

Also, don’t forget to check out our list of the 9 Best PlayStation VR Games if you need any extra inspiration.

Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, from Double Fine
Price: $19.99

It’s been a long time coming but Double Fine’s cult classic world of psychic agents is finally back on our screens, or rather headsets. Rhombus of Ruin picks up straight from where the 2005 original left off, and wastes no time reintroducing us to Raz and his psychic powers. This is a short spin-off of the original, designed to lead into a full sequel next year, which won’t be support VR.

Recommendation: Sadly, Rhombus of Ruin is a little too short on fresh ideas and content to really earn a recommendation from us. If you’re dying to see these characters again then we won’t stop you, but everyone else should wait for a sale. Here’s our review.

Mervils: A VR Adventure, from Virtuvius Technologies
Price: $19.99

Fans that wanted a full game out of The Playroom VR’s Robot Rescue might want to check Mervils out. It’s a full third-person platformer played entirely from inside PSVR, sending you on a quest to defeat the dark sorcerer Balazar. Expect a meaty campaign that translates many of the staples of the genre to VR.

Recommendation: Though it looks a little rough, fans have taken pretty well to Mervils. If the genre is one that appeals to you, don’t turn your nose up at the lacking graphics.
